Protect Your Skin
We all know the sun's rays are dangerous - but, did you know the chemicals in your sunscreen may be exposing you to health hazards as well? While a wide brim hat, sunglasses, and sun-protective clothing are the best line of defense against sun damage, a non-toxic sunscreen can help fill the gap.

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating several new sunscreen compounds believed to be linked to accelerated skin damage, hormone-disruption, and excess absorption into the skin and blood stream. Hospice of Santa Barbara

We recently donated our time and services to the Hospice Caregiver Retreat on Saturday, September 19th and we received really nice feedback from the organizers:

Many thanks to you and the ZenSpa staff for making our caregiver retreat a success! One caregiver came out from her massage and et me know, "It was the best ever!" Another caregiver said he felt 10 years younger after his facial. Thank you for all that you do!

Hospice is a fantastic organization and we're pleased to be able to give back to those caregivers who deal with so much on a daily basis. It's never easy to lose the ones you love - our thoughts and support go out to all of the gracious caregivers who are doing such a selfless and amazing job. Thanks also to Hospice for helping to make the final stage of life as comfortable as possible for our family members.

Aids Walk '09

We had a great time volunteering at the Aids Walk today at Leadbetter Beach! We saw some familiar faces and met many new ones while donating our time to do free seated massages. We also raffled away a couple of treatments. Congratulations to our winners - you all deserve some pampering!

Thanks to all of you who showed your support through walking, volunteering, cheering, donating, etc. The Aids Walk supports a great cause that is very near and dear to our hearts. The event was a huge success and we were honored to be part of it. We hope to see you all in the spa in the near future and, of course, walking out there again next year!

Two Years and Going Strong!

As we celebrate our two year anniversary, we reflect on what has brought us here and where we are headed in the upcoming years.

First and foremost, ZenSpa would like to thank all of you for continuing to fulfill our lives. As a spa owner, Esthetician, Massage Therapist or receptionist, our lives are continually satisfied knowing that what we do for you, as our clients, is making a difference. Making a difference in the way you feel, the way you look and hopefully a difference in overall mood and outlook! At ZenSpa you are our priority and however we can continue to serve you, please let us know.

As we move into our 3rd year in business, we have found some amazing things taking place. Our business continues to grow and with that a natural progression has taken place. One that fits who we are and what we want to accomplish as people, as therapists and as a business in this community. We have found ourselves becoming more and more involved philanthropically - involved with various organizations that are all about helping out, paying it forward.

So far this year we have been involved with donating to organizations such as Girls Inc., Page Youth Center, Disney Elementary School Ed Foundation, Blues for Youth (SB Blues Society), Young Life, "Girls Night Out" (a benefit for Avon Walk for Breast Cancer), Santa Barbara City Firefighters Charity Fund, Moms In Motion, Pasadena Children's Guild, Relay for Life (24 hour relay to benefit Cancer research) and Hospice of Santa Barbara.

We believe that is our journey, through our success we can help others in and around our community to thrive. Thank you for being a part of that success. We look forward to serving you for years to come.

NAWBO Leadership Workshop

I attended a leadership workshop led by Relly Nadler, Psy.D. through NAWBO at the University Club the other day. I highly recommend this course! It was an incredibly motivating and inspiring workshop. Relly discussed Emotional Intelligence and the importance of developing awareness of, and control over, your emotional state in order to be an effective leader. I picked up some really great insights and a copy of his book: Leaders' Playbook. I'll keep you all posted as I read it...

Spa Days of Summer

I can't believe we're in September already. Where did the summer go? A client came into ZenSpa the other day and announced that she was playing hooky for the morning. She wasn't going to check emails, answer her cell phone, or feel stressed about her growing To Do list. After putting so much energy into getting the kids ready to go back to school, it was time to recharge and focus on herself for a few hours.

This got me thinking: we live such busy lives - juggling careers, family, friends, pets, you name it - shouldn't we take all take a few hours and invest in ourselves?

Put your phone on silent and have that extra cup of coffee on the back porch. Close your email and do some yoga at your desk. Better yet, block out an hour and treat yourself to a facial or massage. By taking a break to recharge you'll be more efficient, have more patience, and be better prepared to deal with what life throws at you.
